The wind-farm wil be happy with the upcoming strong-wind advisory tomorrow and Friday.
As if two windstorms this winter hadn’t created enough mayhem and destruction, there’s a new one about to hit the desert early tomorrow morning.
Starting at 4 a.m. Thursday morning and lasting up until 1 p.m. Friday, the National Weather Service’s warning is in effect for the Coachella Valley and the Palm Springs area. They have not said if this is another “inside slider”, like the two previous storm, but the winds will be coming from the north and northeast.
The wind will mainly be between 25-35 miles an hour, but gusts up to 60 mph are expected—and even up to 70 mph. These very high winds are predicted in the areas below the Cajon and Banning passes in the Inland Empire, and in the Fremont and Modjeska Canyons in the Santa Ana mountains.
So for those taking motor homes out and about in preparation for the Christmas weekend or an on-the-road Chanukah celebration should take extreme care. The National Weather Service advises that the winds will make travel hazardous especially for high-profile vehicles, such as recreational vehicles and big-rig trucks.
We are hoping that this storm, as it will be thankfully brief, will not cause the widespread damage that the November 30th storm caused, with trees downed, power poles snapped and residents suffering without electricity.
If this storm does pull down power lines, please do not approach! Southern California Edison reminds Southland residents to stay away from them and instead call them for service. They also warned that some power outages may occur.
Downed power lines can easily spark fires, in residential and commercial areas. Please be on the lookout for fires in urban areas as well as wildfires—the winds and low humidity make a perfect mix to increase the danger.
Please call us immediately if you have any damage to your home or business from fire. Between the holiday season and the weather, there is a great danger for fires, and nothing ruins the holiday spirit like a home in ruins.
