Right now there are several fires raging across California. As we write this, the BART public transport system has been shut down in the Oakland area of San Francisco. There are people’s houses being burnt to the ground as we speak and, as that happens, all of their important documents are being destroyed. Is California’s Fire Season Here Already?
Every year in Southern California, residents are affected by wildfires.
The East Coast remains flooded, but it’s dry as a bone out here in California. Just yesterday, the Highland Community News reported that the past week has been a very busy one for not just CAL FIRE, but for firefighters throughout the state. Apparently, there’s been a substantial increase in large wildfire activity, and despite slightly cooler temperatures, fires are still prone to starting.
Why? Because humidity levels continue to be low in most areas, and the recent heat has cooked all of the moisture out of the dense vegetation, making our usual fall-season tinderbox on hillsides. The fire danger remains HIGH.
Firefighters encourage Southern Californians to remain on guard and cautious, and be very careful in Labor Day barbecues and other events and gatherings where sparks can spread and create fires. Nothing will ruin a celebration more than a house fire, or a wildfire raging dangerously close to a populated area. [Read more…]
