If you are expecting the winds to have left the Southland, you’ll be disappointed. Residents in some areas are still waiting for power to be restored, and many areas will have to be patient while waiting for the winds to die down.
The National Weather Service issued a red-flag warning today for the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties that lasts through Tuesday afternoon. The northeast winds are expected to reach 40 mph with the possibility of gusts up to 60 mph.
Crews have been working hard to restore power to Southern California residents in many areas, especially the San Gabriel Valley, but as of this morning, 26,000 were still without power. Last week’s first hit of the windstorm downed many power lines and electric cables, and now Los Angeles Fire Department’s captain Mark Savage is warning that these latest winds could be dangerous considering the relative low humidity in the area.
The next few days are going to be quite warm which will strip even more moisture from the hillsides, and will create an environment ripe for wildfires. The cool temperatures at night may fool people into thinking that any fire hazard is low, but that’s not the case.
After this week, rain is forecast. If you have had damage from the winds, especially roof damage, you need to get this repaired as soon as possible. Even one leak in your roof could cause massive amounts of water damage and create future mold problems. Make sure you spend the money on prevention, as the damage, or “cure”, will cost a minimum of three times the price!
All of these warnings are just as relevant and crucial for commercial property as they are for residents. Call us immediately if the wind has caused any damage to your property—fixing the problem quickly will prevent costly repairs in the coming weeks and months.
